double-cloth hand weavings in monofilament

The following images are a sampling of a series of double-cloth pieces that embed symbolic objects within the layers of the textile. The transparency of the monofilament opens the interior of the cloth to the gaze of the viewer.

When I began the series, I thought of each piece as a page in a journal, one of a collection of love letters, a window into the day-to-day existence of a working mother at the end (and now the beginning) of a millennium. Later, the work became more serendipitous, enshrining within the double-cloth pocket anything that could be contained within a flat plane: an odd remark, a mistaken image, a frivolous idea, an obscure reference.

The series continues to grow almost organically, each piece threading a pathway to the next. The weavings become translucent time capsules, revealing the ironies and beauties of life in this time.
